Yum, can’t you just smell the cinnamon and sugar on these cookies? My husband is going to wonder what he did “right” or what “I want” because these are his favorite cookies ever. I could think of a few wants I have, but seriously these are really great cookies. The shortening in them make them fluffy but I like the taste of butter so I use both. It’s the cream of tartar that gives this cookie the edge over plain sugar cookies so don’t leave it out or you’ll just have sugar cookies with cinnamon.
Snickerdoodles
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter softened
2 eggs
1 1/2 cup of sugar
2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 cup sugar (for rolling)
1 T. of cinnamon
Directions:
Step 1: Cream together the butter and shortening, then add sugar and eggs mix well.
Step 2: Sift all dry ingredients together then add to wet ingredients until all is well combined. Chill in refrigerator for half hour.
Step 3: While the dough is chilling combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon in small bowl. After chilling roll into small balls, then roll in cinnamon sugar.
Step 4: Bake 12 to a cookie sheet at 375 for 10-12 min.Cool on cookie sheet for about 10 minutes. Then transfer to cooling rack until completely cool. Store cookies in an air tight container.
SO cream of tartar is the secret! I also like the combo of shortening and butter. These might become a 4H project this year! Thanks for sharing!
Melinda, don't make these cookies alone because I'm not liable for how many you eat:)
